Contact the parish clerk

If you need to speak to someone about Bucknell Parish Council, the parish clerk is the best place to start. The clerk handles day-to-day enquiries, meeting papers, bookings and questions about the council's finances, and will pass anything else on to the right councillor.

You can ring, email, or fill in the short form on this page. Tell us the reason for your message and we can get it to the right person first time.

Frequently asked questions

Can I speak at a parish council meeting?

Meetings usually include time set aside for residents to raise matters. It helps to let the clerk know beforehand what you would like to talk about, so it can be included on the agenda. Meeting dates, times and venues are published with the papers on the Agendas and minutes page.

How do I book the village hall or playing field?

Send an enquiry using the form and choose "village hall or facility booking" as the reason, or email the clerk directly. Tell us the date, the times you need and roughly how many people are coming, and you will be told what is available.

Can I inspect the council's accounts?

Yes. Residents can inspect the council's accounts and supporting records. Financial information is published on the Finance page, and you can email the clerk to arrange to see the underlying paperwork.

What is the deadline to comment on a planning application?

Deadlines are set by Cherwell District Council and are shown on the application itself, so they vary. Check the Planning and development page for current items and contact the clerk if you are unsure how much time is left.

Send an enquiry

Use the form to send a message straight to the clerk. Please choose a reason so your enquiry goes to the right place:

  • Village hall or facility booking
  • Planning
  • General enquiry
  • Report a problem
  • Add an event to the calendar

You will need to give your name, an email address or phone number so we can reply, and your message. Once you press send, you will see a short confirmation on screen — "Thank you, we've received your message" — so you know it has gone through.

Please keep messages about individual neighbours or disputes brief and factual. The council cannot act on anonymous complaints.

Write to us by post

If you would rather write, post is delivered to the parish clerk. The council's postal address is in Bucknell, near Bicester, postcode OX27 7LX. Please confirm the full address with the clerk before sending anything important, and allow extra time for post to be collected and read.

Email an individual councillor

Councillors have their own council email addresses, which follow the same pattern:

first.last.bucknellpc@gmail.com

So a councillor named Jane Smith would be jane.smith.bucknellpc@gmail.com. You will find the names of everyone on the council on the Your councillors and clerk page. If you are not sure who to write to, send your message to the clerk instead and it will be forwarded.

When you will hear back

The clerk works part time, so replies are not instant. Messages are picked up regularly and you should expect a reply within a few working days. Anything urgent is better raised by phone.

Please note the exact response time and the clerk's working hours are still to be confirmed — ring the number above if you need an answer quickly.

Some things go to another council, not us

Bucknell is a small parish council. Several everyday services are run by the district or county council, and reporting them there directly is much faster:

  • Cherwell District Council — bin collections and missed bins, planning applications and enforcement, council tax, housing, fly-tipping and dog fouling.
  • Oxfordshire County Council — roads and potholes, street lighting, road signs, drains and flooding on the highway, footpaths and rights of way, schools and social care.

If you are not sure who deals with something, ask the clerk and you will be pointed in the right direction. The parish council can also support a report you have already made, for example by raising a recurring problem at a meeting.
